Thomas the Apostle, also called Judas Thomas, Doubting Thomas, or Didymus, was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus. St. Thomas came to India to spread God’s message after the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his tomb is located at the Santhome Basilica in Chennai.

Near Chennai in India stands a small hillock called St. Thomas Mount, where the Apostle is said to have been killed in 72 AD (exact year not established). Also to be found in Chennai is the Dioceses of Saint Thomas of Mylapore to which his mortal remains were supposedly transferred.

The Rs.500-million ($12 million) project is being supported by the St. Thomas Apostle of India Trust, set up by the Catholic Archdiocese of Mylapore. The film will be on the lines of Hollywood classics like The Ten Commandments and Ben Hur. Rajnikanth and Kamal Haasan, the two stalwarts of Tamil cinema, are likely to come together in this film, say reports.

It has been confirmed that Ajith and wife Shalini will be part of the project. Unconfirmed sources say, superstar Rajinikanth will be play as legendary Tamil littérateur Thiruvalluvar and Kamal Haasan will play a prominent role and actors Vijay and Vikram will also feature in the film.

If the project materialises, this will be their second film together. Three decades ago, director Bharathiraja had cast both the stars in his 1977 movie Pathinaru Vayathinile. Both Kamal and Rajni made their mark as the hero and the villain respectively in the film set in a rural ambience. After that, they went on different path to carve their separate careers .
