There was once an era when actresses used to be more than eager to star in performance-oriented roles. Things have drastically changed now. In fact, there are atleast two heroines in south India who run at the name of heroine-oriented subjects.
The "larger-than-life" and glamorous Namitha once starred in a Tamil film made by a director-turned-actor who is known for his quirkiness. She was told that her role in the film would be good enough to get her an award for best actress. But it was only when she started to act in the film that she realized that the director intended to show her in unnecessarily glamorous ways. If that wasn't bad enough, the film flopped at the box office.
She is now returning with renewed vigor to star in glamorous and masala roles.
